Belarusian diaspora protesting at Interpol’s headquarters in France, 3 October 2021.

Belarusians of France held a picket near Interpol’s headquarters on 3 October 2021. They called on Interpol to stop cooperating with the Lukashenko regime in order to prevent Belarusian special services from using Interpol to prosecute the oppositionists who live abroad.

The diaspora representatives sent an open letter to Interpol, in which they explain the situation. They received a reply stating that Interpol applies the Red Notice protocol in relation to Belarus and that every request from the Belarusian special services undergoes a special check. However, Makary Malakhouski’s case proves otherwise. Makary was detained in Poland at the request of the Belarusian police after having fled from persecution in Belarus. Therefore, the representatives of the diaspora went out to protest in order to call on Interpol to cooperate with the Belarusian democratic forces and BYPOL and to prevent this situation from happening in the future.
